JULY 30 WOD 



A. Back Squat 5-5-5

- 80k x 5! I tried 85 for 5 but failed on the first rep because I dropped way too low on the ground. 80k felt good :)





B. 4 rounds for time: 
     10 Burpee Box Jumps
     20 alternating Pistols
     30 
alternating KBS 1.5/1p

-The time cap for this Wod was 17 minutes. I did 3 rounds and 18 pistols rx. I am angry that I didn't finish the wod in the time cap but it just showed me how much I need to work on pistols! That shit slowed me down a lot! I'm happy with the burpee box jumps and KBS since I didn't waste too much time with those ones.

Isabel is such a snatch!

JULY 27 WOD

Hot Crossfit Girl..who needs machines?!?
B. For Time:
     Run 400m
     30-20-10
     Goblet Squat
     Box Jump 24/20 

-8:29 min with a 16k kettle bell and 20'' box. I'm pretty happy with my time but I could have used a better strategy for the goblet squats. I should have done 2 sets of 15 the first round instead of 6 sets of 5! Easier said than done! lol I was exhausted by the end of it.

 I was feeling pretty pumped after the WOD and had a bit more energy to do something else so I decided to try 'Isabel' again.  On June 16, I did Isabel with 30k and finished in 3:26. Today, I used the same weight and did it in 3:11. NEW PR:) Happy about that but I need to increase the weight damn it!!! The big girls use 40k for the wod and I am still working on 30k. Next time I try it I will increase to 35. It's going to be a tough long road but it will be worth it!!!

JULY 26 WOD

A. Pull-Up Max Reps x5

- My hands were really hurting today so I practiced kipping (again). I need to work on my technique more before I start doing pull-ups for max reps. My main issue is not pulling away from the bar. I do a pull-up then go straight down and lose the rhythm for a kip. Gotta keep practicing!!!
B. 3 Rounds For Time:
     45 DUs
     20 Wall Ball "2-fer-1s"

- This wod took me 14:04min. My double-unders are getting better but I still should be a lot faster. Wall balls are fun but I didn't do '2-for-1s'. I realized that was part of the wod when I finished it...woops! This wod dragged on...it felt like it took forever. My goal for this wod in the near future is 8 minutes >>>practice double-unders everyday<<<






This is a great video because she shows us how to do a  butterfly pull-up step by step. Once I master this...Fran will be a piece of cake!....Mmmm...cake.

- 70k for 5!!! I did better than I thought for the zercher squat especially since my PR front squat is 75k for one. Next time I'll try to do 75k since I didn't feel like 70k was a big enough challenge for me. Muahahah!

     1 Minute Max Ring Push-Up
     1 Minute Max Hang Snatch 45/30
     1 Minute Rest

- 82 rx. That is a dinky score especially since I only managed to snatch about 10 times a minute and perform 10 or else ring push-ups a minute. There were some people in the class that got over 20 snatches a minute! I am jealous. I need to work on my overall strength and not dropping the weight when it becomes too heavy. I just have to think one minute at a time when it comes to these wods so I always do my best.

- a measly 35k! I realized today how shitty I am at floor press! I need to work on my upper body way more and do more strict push ups. That was disappointing! 

B. 12 Minute AMRAP
     8 Ring Row
     4 TGU
     2 Burpees

- 6 rounds and 2 TGU's. I was happy with my round because I was aiming for at least 5 and then ended up beating that. I was focused a lot during the TGU's since I knew that would be my weakness. Great workout:)

-10 KBS for 8 rounds and 15 squats for 8 rounds! Next time I will try to keep up 20 squats per round since I managed that for the first 6, then caved and dropped down to 15! My legs were killing me!!!

- My time for the run and sit-ups was 6:12min. Running after squats was the worst!!

Classroom DIY

So, I mentioned in my last post that I got a job as a Kindergarten teacher! I'm so excited! I'll be at a private Christian school pretty close to where we live. Now, because I've been without a job for a while and Isaac works off of commission doing body work AND we just had to spend a little over $5,000 for a new air conditioner inside and out of our home we are renting in Dallas AND I need to stock a classroom and find clothes to wear to teach (what a run-on sentence, huh?) I'm trying to do as much DIY stuff as possible! So, here's my project for the day with instructions.



I plan to use these as seats for the kids for things such as guided reading. The top is removable and we can store guided reading materials such as books and whisper phones in the crate! :)

Supplies:
crate (walmart has them for $3.47 right now 7-24-12)
plywood (not pictured) (hardware store)--they cut it for you if you want
staple gun (hardware store)
staples (hardware store) I got 5/16" so they wouldn't be too long but long enough.
mattress foam (walmart)
pliers (hardware store or husband's tool bag) ;)
scissors (who doesn't have scissors?)
fabric of choice (craft store like Hobby Lobby)--I chose a Peanuts theme for my classroom and anything I can't find that goes with that I get dog stuff to go with Snoopy. :)


First thing's first! There's a lip inside the top of the crate that you will need to measure! * Have it cut to where the wood isn't snug in there because you'll be adding fabric but still big enough that it'll sit on there.


My finger is on the lip you need to measure. Ignore the jerky treats in the back. :) (although, I will say, Costco puts them on for BOGO sometimes AND we had a coupon for other dog treats one time and those were still cheaper. They look like a piece of bacon and I tear one in half at bed time and give each dog one half) I digress....

Now, I'm fortunate enough that my husband cut the wood for me. Usually Home Depot is really good about doing stuff for you if you tell them you're a teacher. But, my husband did have to sand the corners to make them more rounded.

Next, I went to Walmart and got a twin sized mattress pad. It was called a 'convoluted mattress topper'.

After that I went to Hobby Lobby (or for those of you not in the south you can go to a Michaels) and picked out my fabric. I got a simple cotton fabric, but I'm sure fleece would work ok, too. But, to me fleece shows more dirt and what not when it gets dirty.

Now, lay the wood on top of the mattress topper and trace it and cut it out. I ended up using 3 layers of cushion on the seats so that they would have enough cushion on their little booties. :) AND so it would stick over the top of the crate.



It doesn't look like it but there are three layers. The layer in the middle is smaller than the rest.

Now, turn your fabric upside down and stack the foam and put the board on top. Then you can cut enough to stretch REAL tight over the board and staple.

 and I could hardly get Mia out of my face. I think she thought I was
making something for them with all the kisses she gave me.


Pull the fabric really tight over the corners and staple. Then pull the rest in towards the middle so there's nothing on the sides puckering out. If any area puckers a tiny bit it won't matter. But, it doesn't have to look perfect on the bottom. But, if you'd like it to get another rectangle of fabric and lay it over the bottom, fold the ends under and staple.



Voila! They definitely hold up. I sat on one and it held me--that means it's SUPER sturdy!



Look who came to claim she helped after all the stapling and cutting was done! She weighs 40 pounds in case you're wondering. So, she roughly weighs as much as a 5 year old kid. 


Also, I'm going to get a short piece of sturdy canvas (like on backpack straps) and make a loop and staple it under one side of each stool for a handle to pull on to lift. :)

- It took me 26:09min to complete the WOD on my own. I did half of everything since I didn't have a partner and substituted running for rowing:) I used 30lb for the dumbbell snatch but I should've used 35lb. 30lb felt too easy and I didn't jump as much as I should have during the snatch.

-Practiced a lot with 30k. I need to keep working on my snatch because my form is terrible. I know what I'm supposed to do but I never have enough patience to let the bar go over my knee before I jump up! Practice, practice, practice.

- I finished in 13:09 RX! I always love rx'ing in a WOD especially since it doesn't happen as often as it should. This wod was a lot of fun since I love pull-ups and kettle bell swings. I must get better at kipping in order to shorten my time a lot more.

A. Deadlift 5-5-5

- 90K x 5 x 3...I attempted 95k but i failed after the 3rd rep! On june 3rd I did 90k for 5 as well but this time my form was a lot better. 

B. For Time:
    30 C&J 60/45
    400m Run
    30 Wall Ball


- I used 40k for the Clean and Jerk and it was brutal!! It felt so heavy and I felt like I was moving really slow. On june 24 I used my first 40k for a clean and jerk in a wod and I honestly felt like it was crushing me. Even though it feels so deadly, I can't chicken out and try to use 35k. How am I ever going to get to rx if I keep getting so nervous over 40k!!?! (rx is 45k) Anyway, I must keep working at it and staying tough....GrrRRRRRR.

Finances

Ok, so here's another contrast from Dallas to Houston. If an apartment looks nice in Dallas--it's usually nice. If an apartment complex looks nice in Houston that means squat. We live in a kind of ghetto area. I'm at fault for that. I didn't research what this area is like, had one day to drive the 4 hours here find an apartment and drive 4 hours back. Most importantly, I didn't know what we could afford. I kept making these small mistakes and apologizing to Isaac and saying, "I'm sorry I don't know how what we can afford." Well, I got tired of saying that. So, I did something about it. There is nobody that wouldn't benefit from doing this system on some level!

Where did I go first? Pinterest, of course! I found a blog that gave an example of a lady's binder she uses for their bills. So, I made my own. I'm about to be a Kindergarten teacher for a private Christian school. So, you can guess how much I love binders!

I'm still working on this, but so far I have the front inside pocket finished:


In the front pocket I keep: Envelopes, pen, stamps, check book and 4 envelopes. The four envelopes are labeled- Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4. This way, every Sunday I look in the envelopes and see which bills have come in according to when they're due. If I don't get a paper bill I made a notecard with the name of the bill and due date.

Also, I put a checklist in my binder.


I made this list of all of our bills and months for the rest of the year and put a D for paying with Debit and C for paying with Credit. NOW LET ME ADDRESS THIS. I made this before I went back and researched Dave Ramsey. So, the new one has all D's.

I am so on fire right now for this process for our money. Before we were just throwing a random amount money at the credit card when we got paid and because we threw so much at it we had to use the credit card to pay other stuff. So, it was a 2 steps forward, 3 steps back kind of thing. We also had no idea how much we were spending on other stuff like groceries and eating out. I totaled it up for the month of June and I was appalled. Between Walmart, Costco and restaurants we spent about $1,000. I couldn't believe it. No wonder we didn't have any money!!!!! I mean can you believe that?! I still can't. ANYWAYS...

Dave Ramsey has a list of recommended percentages for how you should spend your money. This makes me happy. How happy? Happier than Gallagher at a farmer's market. :) THAT'S pretty happy.



Ok. So here are the percentages:

Tithe: 10-15%
Savings: 5-10%
Housing: 25-30%
Utilities: 5-10%
Food: 5-15%
Transportation: 10-15%
Clothing: 2-7%
Medical/Health: 5-10%
Personal: 5-10%
Recreation: 5-10%
Debts: 5-10%


The best part is that it doesn't matter how much you make! My husband is an auto body tech and works off of commission. So, his check varies. This way, no matter what his check is like we still make a dent in our debt AND get some money in savings, because like my dad says, "It's not how much money you make, it's about how much you can keep." Now, obviously you'll have to decide how much of the percentages you'll need to use because if you do all the highest percentages it's more than 100% and all the low end percentages total less than 100%. But, this helps you live within your means!!! And you still have personal and recreation money.

In my next post I'll include his worksheets so you can see EXACTLY what each category covers, i.e. transportation-car payment, gas, tires, oil change, money for a new car, etc...

And I'll also go over using cash envelopes!

Bulging Muscles

Saw this photo in a magazine and couldn't believe that there was a picture of Jessica Biel on this caption!!! She is fit as hell and people are crazy!!!! This is why young girls are afraid to lift weights and get healthier. They see things like this in there favourite magazine and think that they should diet their asses off and eat celery rather than lift weights and have a nice ass..like Jessica Biel.

JULY 16 WOD

A. Squat Clean Thruster 3-3-3     (no re-gripping)

- 40k. I tried 41 for 3 but I re-gripped so it didn't count!! GrrrR!! 

B. For 10 Minutes Perform
     Odd Minutes 15 Pull-Ups
     Even Minutes 15 Slam Ball

- 178 rx with a 30lb slam ball. I completed all the slam ball but I didn't finish all the pull-ups required in one minute. It was so tough I can't imagine trying to do 20 pull-ups in a minute!! I have to really work on kipping to make it easier on myself. Slam ball was fun and not as painful as pull-ups, although 30lb was a bit heavy.

C.  3 Minutes Max Push-ups

- 41 push ups! Tiring and exhausting!!

JULY 17 WOD

A. Back Squat 10-10-10

- 70k for 10!!!! This is GREAT, because last week I did 70 for 8 and this time it felt way easier. I should've aimed for 75.  Video up soon..:)

B. For 10 Minutes Perform
     Odd Minutes 25 KBS 1.5/1p
     Even Minutes 25 Hollow Rocks

- 173 rx...I suck at hollow rocks! I need to work on them. Kettle bell swings were fun and not nearly as irritating.

C. 2 Minutes Max Turkish get ups- R
     2 Minutes Max Turkish get ups - L

- I did 5 with each hand. It was really tough and heavy and I lost my balance a lot. I need to focus more and remain calm during TGU's. :)

JULY 18 WOD

A. Weighted Pull-Ups

- I practiced kipping instead since I can't even fathom adding weight to a pull up lol I practiced hand stand pushups before the wod so my arm's were KILLING at this point. Oh well, I should get used to it. 

B.3 Rounds For Time:

   15 T2B
   4x50m Run

12:09. I did 25 db press instead of hand stand pushups since I'm still working on them. This was a tough wod because I felt so sore..lol but it wasn't one of the crazier ones! Tomorrow's wod looks deadly!!!!!! I'M SCARED.

Crossfit Girl (before) pics

I've been crossfitting 5-6 times a week since April 2012 and I've wanted to post 'before' pics for quite some time. I have always been scrawny (5'5 125 lbs)and started crossfit to become stronger and more smooookin. I am also obsessed with crossfit socks and have them in every colour. I have been going to the gym since I was 16 but never really noticed results until I started doing crossfit workouts. The harder I train, the less crap I want to eat because it affects my performance in wods. 
My goal is to be the best version of myself and although I am so tempted to post photos of broads I admire (physique-wise)I will only post pictures of myself. I have seen more changes in my body in the last 3 months of crossfit than I have in 3 years at the YMCA. I'm still skinny minny but the goal is near!

These are my 'before' pictures. In 2 more months I'll post some progress pics. I feel great right now and wouldn't change much about how I look. Everyone has something they want to work on and anyone who says they don't are lying. It should't be a crime to want to improve and it doesn't mean I'm insecure if I have certain physical goals I want to reach. Bottom line: I am 23 years old and I shouldn't have any excuse to not look/feel the greatest. If I start talking shit now about why I can't reach certain goals, I'm doomed...O.o

-17 rounds + 3 pull ups COMPARED TO  May 29 16 rounds and 5 push ups!!! That's almost a full round more than last time in a month and a half. This wod was exhausting and I sometimes think that I can never do better than the time before. I have never finished Cindy and thought to myself, 'Oh I wish I had more time, I could do another round!'. I am always so exhausted in the end. It's one of my favourite workouts and I am so glad that I don't have to use a band for my wods anymore:)

- 5x5 with 30k. I want to get a lot better at snatching but I need to work on my form a lot. I need to keep the bar close, jump more and use less back. GrrrrrRrr!!!! Too many things to remember...lol

Penalty for every missed rep within the minute

-4:12rx. I missed 2 burpees, 10 KBS and 10 sit-ups. Very annoyed. I had to do 22 ball slams as the 'penalty' and ended up doing 26 now that I look back. Oh well. It was a great workout =)

-FAILED!!I finished every round but didn't complete the double-unders!! I got 20 the first round but after that, I was so screwed. I learned how to do double unders last week and didn't practice at all after that. I don't know why I thought I would magically whip through them in a WOD without practising. Who do I think I am?!?!?! Anyway, lesson learned. Starting tomorrow, I am practicing double-unders everyday. I said this last time but today was harsh reminder. Nothing is more annoying then failing to complete a WOD because of double unders!!!!

This WOD was so brutal I am shocked that I completed it. 40 k is really heavy for me and if it wasn't for my partner that was whipping through the hang cleans and push presses, I would have FAILED. YEP. Not ashamed to admit it! I was really good at front squats but the weight was so heavy. I think that my PUSH PRESS PR IS 45K so to do 40K in a WOD was tough. I'm glad I finished it and it was a real ass kick. 
Sometimes I think that all crossfitters must LOVE S&M since they love workouts that beat the shit out of them lol....but hey, if it means you become a fit iron kitty like this..then it sure is worth the pain and bruises!!

So many girls are afraid to try Crossfit because they're afraid they'll be "bulky" or "manly". Does this girl fall into any of those categories??! NOPE.

JULY 6 WOD


A. Front Squat 3-3-3 
- 4 sets of 3 (65k) It was heavy but it wasn't hard. I felt like I could've done 70k but I wouldn't have been able to do that many sets with it. I back squatted a lot the day before so my legs needed a bit of a break. 


B. 3 Rounds for Time: 18:54min
    30m Over Head Walking Lunge (20k)
    15 T2B
    30 DU

THAT WOD WAS EXHAUSTING!! Lunges weren't that bad but combined with double-unders (which I barely knew how to do in the beginning of the wod) and T2B, I felt like I was going really slow.
The highlight of the WOD was finally learning how to do double unders!!!! I've been trying for months and I always kick back or don't jump fast enough! 
During the first round of the wod, I was struggling so much with double unders that it wasted a good 4 minutes-.- Another cross fitter was at the gym and gave me advice that my boyfriend has been giving me for months. "Jump straight up and keep your hands forward." I did just that and started getting 10-15 double unders in a row! I have never been able to get more than 5 in a row and that's after many exhausting attempts! I don't know why I didn't listen to my boyfriend the first 100 times but I guess I needed to hear it from someone else lol 
I am so excited about my new accomplishment and can't wait to get better at DU's. I sound like a cross fit nerd. I'm going to start doing 100 du's for time and post it daily:)

Food and Crossfit

The main reason I want to eat healthier is to be more successful in the wods and be stronger! I feel like everyone needs a reason to do something and without one, there is no motivation, no will power, no OOMF...yes OOMF. People need a goal and if my goal is to complete that hoe 'Fran' without a band, ya damn right I'll have two shakes a day and cut out sleepy carbs and head rush treats!
         I talk a lot of shit about Paleo but I love it. I always have a lot of energy and never feel bloated. I can be completely full and satisfied and not feel like DEATH afterwards. Why am I such a shit talker then??? Maybe it's the devil on my shoulder saying, "Fuck everyone! Eat that burger/cake/fries and just work out after!" ...Yet, every time I've done that, I feel like a slaughtered pig. Just deadly! In order to do well and improve in my training, I HAVE to eat well!
