Momish? What's that?
I'm a Momish. Yes, Momish. Thanks to my AMAZING Sonish, I'm a Momish. My husband had a son with his first wife who is the greatest kid on the planet. I should say young man because he's a teenager and becoming a man we are both very proud of.
Not long after we came into each other's lives a discussion had begun about things that are but aren't quite are "ish". For example kind of tall is tallish, a little late is lateish, etc. One day while leaving a restaurant, my Sonish wrapped his arm around my shoulder and said, "Michelle, when I introduce you to people I'm going to tell them you're my Momish". Momish was the sweetest word I've ever heard.
So being a Momish is one of the many rolls or hyphens I work on in my life. See my blog on hyphenated living for more on that. Because my sonish lives a few states away the role is even more unique than that of my fellow Momishes. To add to it, I did not have children before I met my husband and we've elected not to have more children together. So Momish is it. My sonish is the most perfect young man I could have ever asked for so this fits.
In the past few years I've learned that there are lots of Momishes out there. In fact, I hope to invite some of my fellow momishes to be guest bloggers. It turns out most of us don't look like the character from Cinderella and many of us have great relationships with the young people in our lives. Like traditional moms, we're not perfect and regularly ask ourselves if we're making the right decisions as parents (ish).
So check back. There's bound to be lively discussion, tips, success stories, and maybe even some challenging tales about what it takes to be a momish.
